The Truth About Change

“The truth is, each gain in life represents the loss of something else. We simply never move forward in life without losing something. No wonder most of us are resistant to change, even when those changes promise to be positive. Surrendering to change means letting go of being in control.”- Katherine Woodward Thomas

I think this quote is a great segway into today’s blog topic. Change is a topic that can evoke an array of strong negative emotions in people. But change my friends is not something to be feared. In fact change is something that should be embraced. Every experience in life, good or bad, comes entangled in a lesson worth learning. The important question here is whether or not we are willing to accept what that lesson has taught us. Many people choose to live in denial and continue to follow the same life patterns because they feel it is easier to remain in the role of the victim. But when you choose to see the lesson in the experience, it not only allows you to grow as a person, but also helps you to make peace with the experience. At least you know it served a greater purpose in your life’s path.

"In some way, suffering ceases to be suffering at the moment it finds a meaning"- Dr. Frankl

I’ve struggled many times in my life to find meaning behind difficult situations. I think this is something that everyone can relate too. After my engagement was called off I struggled with understanding why I had to be put through such a painful experience. In hindsight it is the experience I am most grateful for in my life. If I had not gone through that experience in my life I would not be the woman I am today. I would have never embarked on this incredible journey. That experience completely redirected my life’s path. It caused a spiritual reawakening and made me reexamine exactly how I wanted to live my life. I had spent far too much time living a life that was not mine. A life where I did not put my needs first. The moment I decided to start living my life authentically every part of my life improved and continues to improve every day.  The reason for this was that I began to honor my feelings, my hopes, my dreams, my needs, my opinions and my uniqueness. I stopped trying to fit the mold and started to embrace all my imperfections that make me…ME!  Why should I “follow the script” if that’s not what works for me? The more I started to believe in myself the more others believed in me. The more I accepted myself the more others accepted me. See in order for others to see our beauty and to treat us well, we must first acknowledge our beauty and treat ourselves well. We are the ones that set the tone for how we want to be treated as well as what we want to attract in our lives.   Don’t deny the rest of the world of your BEAUTY! We all have such amazing gifts to offer the world. Life is all about perception.  You can choose to continually perceive things in a negative light or you can choose to perceive things in a positive light. What will you choose?

“Our Deepest Fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.”-Marianne Williamson

I have a great journaling exercise for you all to do.  Make a list of three or four difficult losses you’ve experienced in your life and how you got through them. Then write what you gained from each of those experiences. After you’ve completed this task I then want you to name some of the necessary losses you’ve been trying to avoid.
